Lyft Sued by Rider Who Claims Driver Told Her She’s Too Big for His Car
Lyft faces a lawsuit from a rider who alleges she was denied a ride due to her weight.
Dajua Blanding, who raps under the name Dank Demoss, says she called for a Lyft last week and when the driver arrived in his Mercedes-Benz sedan, he locked his doors and refused her entry. According to her lawsuit, the driver told her she was "too big to fit in the back seat" and that his tires could not support her weight, stating this was a problem he’d encountered before.
The driver is accused of violating Michigan civil rights laws against discrimination based on weight. Dajua claims she has suffered emotional distress as a result.
A Lyft spokesperson responded: "Lyft unequivocally condemns all forms of discrimination… Our community guidelines and terms of service explicitly prohibit harassment or discrimination."
