Say Hello to Passive Shirt Profits!
My T-shirt tutorial website is live, and I’m more excited than ever about this launch. Why? Because this time, I’m doing things in the right order. Even though 2 Create a Website has seen tremendous success, I always felt like I was rushing through certain steps. For example, I delayed starting an email list and selling my own products for too long—that’s because I didn’t need to, at the time.
However, as things have evolved since my initial launch, my strategy had to adapt as well. When I launched a site years ago, my focus was on building extensive content for search engine traffic and monetizing it with affiliate links and ads. That approach won’t be as effective today. Now, I prioritize list-building and selling my own products instead of relying on others’.
In this post, I’ll share what’s different about my new site and my growth as a business owner. But first…
Passive Shirt Profits: Diversifying My Income
Since diving into Merch by Amazon last fall, I’ve become obsessed with print-on-demand (POD) – the process of uploading an image, adding it to a product, and earning royalties when it’s sold. By the end of this year, I’ll cross the six-figure mark in royalties, with most gains coming recently. I’ve also expanded my designs to over 25 different niches thanks to Merch. Not bad for a part-time venture!
I created Passive Shirt Profits for two main reasons:
- Diversification: I want to reduce my income reliance on the unpredictable POD market by offering courses.
- Market Gap: There’s a lack of resources teaching beginners about software specific to creating T-shirt designs, so I aim to fill that void.
I don’t just want to focus on individual POD platforms; instead, I want to teach practical skills like coming up with creative concepts for various niches (a key secret to my Merch by Amazon success) and software knowledge. It’s important to research competitors and listen to user feedback in groups and forums to inspire my course content.
What’s Different This Time…
I Started an Email List Early
I will never launch another site without an email list. Previously, I launched this site in 2010, eight years after 2 Create a Website was established, and didn’t have any products to sell at the time. This time, I immediately set up an email list and, thanks to my private group and podcast, already have 31 subscribers after just two weeks.
The Podcasting Hype is Real
I launched the PSP Podcast on May 29th without any announcement, and within a week had over 30 downloads and two email subscribers (with a call-to-action at the end of each episode). This proves that people are actively searching for and listening to podcasts about Merch and POD—making podcasting a smart traffic method.
After two weeks, I’ve already reached 150 downloads!
