Volkswagen is set to unveil the facelifted Taigun on April 9, 2026, building upon the SUV’s initial launch in India in September 2021. The update aims to keep the Taigun competitive in a rapidly evolving mid-size SUV segment by focusing on design, features, and powertrain improvements.
Volkswagen Taigun Facelift: Design Changes
The facelift will retain the Taigun’s core identity while aligning its exterior design with Volkswagen’s newer global SUV aesthetics. Key changes include:
- Front Fascia: Sleeker LED headlamps connected by a continuous light bar, featuring an illuminated Volkswagen logo. The front bumper and chrome elements will be restyled for a more robust look.
- Rear: Updated LED tail-lamps and a revised rear bumper. The SUV is expected to grow slightly in size, particularly in the boot space.
- Alloy Wheels: New alloy wheels are anticipated.
Interior Upgrades
The interior will receive subtle improvements with new color schemes and trims. The air conditioning system will be enhanced for better cooling performance in humid Indian conditions.
Feature Additions and Missing Elements
The facelift aims to address equipment gaps compared to rivals, offering:
- Panoramic sunroof (in higher variants)
- Larger digital instrument cluster
- Large touchscreen infotainment system
- Additional safety features
Existing features like automatic climate control, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and smartphone connectivity will remain. The rear seat massage function is unclear.
Powertrain: New 8-Speed Automatic Transmission
The facelift will retain the existing engine options: a 1.0L TSI with manual or new 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission (115hp, 178Nm) and a 1.5L TSI with seven-speed DSG automatic (150hp, 250Nm).
Pricing
Due to significant updates, the facelifted Taigun is expected to carry a premium, with ex-showroom prices likely to rise.
